James B. Bakalar: Marihuana The Forbidden Medicine
Una copia per il sottoscritto e le rimanenti due per chi le
desidera.
Il costo è di 26,23 Euro + 3,70 Euro di spese di
spedizione.
La mia prima copia arriverà a giorni, e le altre due quando
verrà messo nello stato degli ordini in corso da parte del
negozio.
Io attenderò massimo fino al 2 Novembre, ma non so dirvi se
arriverà prima o dopo la mia copia.
Per quel che mi è sembrato di capire, per evadere il
secondo ordine che provvede ad inviare le due copie, ci
vogliono fra i 3 e 4 giorni.

professor of psychiatric epidemiologyd
Objectives
An association between use of cannabis in adolescence and
subsequent risk of schizophrenia was previously reported in
a follow up of Swedish conscripts. Arguments were raised
that this association may be due to use of drugs other than
cannabis and that personality traits may have confounded
results. We performed a further analysis of this cohort to
address these uncertainties while extending the follow up
period to identify additional cases.
Setting 1969-70 survey of Swedish conscripts (97% of the
country's male population aged 18-20).
Participants
50 087 subjects: data were available on self reported use of
cannabis and other drugs, and on several social and
psychological characteristics.
Results
Cannabis was associated with an increased risk of developing
schizophrenia in a dose dependent fashion both for subjects
who had ever used cannabis (adjusted odds ratio for linear
trend of increasing frequency 1.2, 95% confidence interval
1.1 to 1.4, P50 times was 6.7 (2.1 to 21.7) in the cannabis
only group. Similar results were obtained when analysis was
restricted to subjects developing schizophrenia after five
years after conscription, to exclude prodromal cases.
Conclusions
Cannabis use is associated with an increased risk of
developing schizophrenia, consistent with a causal relation.
This association is not explained by use of other
psychoactive drugs or personality traits relating to social
integration.

In recent years, cannabis research has concentrated on the
potential of cannabinoids as therapeutic substances,
particularly in serious chronic illnesses such as multiple
sclerosis. Most volumes published on cannabinoids so far
concentrate on the biological activity, biochemistry and
pharmacology, whereas this volume concentrates on the
diseases, the physiological effects and therapeutic use of
cannabinoids. The volume editor Prof. Mechoulam was the
first who isolated the prime active constituent (THC,
Tetrahydrocannabiol) of marijuana. He published extensively
on the pharmacological activities of cannabinoids. The
volume is of interest to researchers and clinicians from
pharmacology, neuroscience, and medicinal research.

10 minuti al giorno,sentirebbe la mia mancanza se li
lasciassi terreno libero,tanto a livello mondiale si spinge
per legalizzare la cannabis,lui potra solo stare a guardare
inerme e accettare la sua condizione di fallito e
perdente,se conosci qualche smanettone digli che c'e' un hdd
bello pieno che aspetta un bel delete,lo possono usare per
allenarsi come palestra.....purtroppo con le haze mi viene
da denigrarlo e umiliarlo,provero' a cambiare il daytime

Marijuana is the most commonly used illicit drug in the
United States, but little is known about its effects on the
human brain, particularly on reward/aversion regions
implicated in addiction, such as the nucleus accumbens and
amygdala. Animal studies show structural changes in brain
regions such as the nucleus accumbens after exposure to
????9-tetrahydrocannabinol, but less is known about cannabis
use and brain morphometry in these regions in humans.
We collected high-resolution MRI scans on young adult
recreational marijuana users and nonusing controls and
conducted three independent analyses of morphometry in these
structures: (1) gray matter density using voxel-based
morphometry, (2) volume (total brain and regional volumes),
and (3) shape (surface morphometry).
Gray matter density analyses revealed greater gray matter
density in marijuana users than in control participants in
the left nucleus accumbens extending to subcallosal cortex,
hypothalamus, sublenticular extended amygdala, and left
amygdala, even after controlling for age, sex, alcohol use,
and cigarette smoking. Trend-level effects were observed for
a volume increase in the left nucleus accumbens only.
Significant shape differences were detected in the left
nucleus accumbens and right amygdala.
The left nucleus accumbens showed salient exposure-
dependent alterations across all three measures and an
altered multimodal relationship across measures in the
marijuana group.
These data suggest that marijuana exposure, even in young
recreational users, is associated with exposure-dependent
alterations of the neural matrix of core reward structures
and is consistent with animal studies of changes in
dendritic arborization.

Chi usa regolarmente cannabis prima dei 17 anni ha una
probabilità di oltre il 60% maggiore di abbandonare gli
studi secondari ed è a rischio significativamente più alto
di non completare quelli universitari, di usare altre droghe
e di tentare il suicidio, rispetto a chi non l'ha mai
fumata.
Uno studio australiano del Centro Nazionale di Ricerca su
Droghe e Alcool dell'Università del Nuovo Galles del Sud
conclude inoltre che non vi è un livello 'sicuro' di uso da
parte di adolescenti, e che i risultati educativi più
scarsi e i rischi accresciuti si verificano anche fra chi
usa la droga meno di una volta al mese.
Gli studiosi hanno elaborato i dati di 3765 partecipanti che
hanno usato cannabis, da tre ampi studi di lunga durata
sulla frequenza e sugli effetti del suo uso.
Secondo gli autori della ricerca, pubblicata su The Lancet
Psychiatry, si tratta della dimostrazione più fondata dei
danni della marijuana negli anni dell'adolescenza. I
ricercatori hanno esaminato una serie di aspetti dello
sviluppo fino all'età di 30 anni: completamento degli studi
secondari, conseguimento di una laurea, dipendenza dalla
cannabis, uso di altre droghe illegali, tentativi di
suicidio, e depressione.

Summary
Background
Debate continues about the consequences of adolescent
cannabis use. Existing data are limited in statistical power
to examine rarer outcomes and less common, heavier patterns
of cannabis use than those already investigated;
furthermore, evidence has a piecemeal approach to reporting
of young adult sequelae. We aimed to provide a broad picture
of the psychosocial sequelae of adolescent cannabis use.
Methods
We integrated participant-level data from three large,
long-running longitudinal studies from Australia and New
Zealand: the Australian Temperament Project, the
Christchurch Health and Development Study, and the Victorian
Adolescent Health Cohort Study. We investigated the
association between the maximum frequency of cannabis use
before age 17 years (never, less than monthly, monthly or
more, weekly or more, or daily) and seven developmental
outcomes assessed up to age 30 years (high-school
completion, attainment of university degree, cannabis
dependence, use of other illicit drugs, suicide attempt,
depression, and welfare dependence). The number of
participants varied by outcome (N=2537 to N=3765).
Findings
We recorded clear and consistent associations and
dose-response relations between the frequency of adolescent
cannabis use and all adverse young adult outcomes. After
covariate adjustment, compared with individuals who had
never used cannabis, those who were daily users before age
17 years had clear reductions in the odds of high-school
completion (adjusted odds ratio 0·37, 95% CI 0·20–0·66)
and degree attainment (0·38, 0·22–0·66), and
substantially increased odds of later cannabis dependence
(17·95, 9·44–34·12), use of other illicit drugs (7·80,
4·46–13·63), and suicide attempt (6·83,
2·04–22·90).
Interpretation
Adverse sequelae of adolescent cannabis use are wide ranging
and extend into young adulthood. Prevention or delay of
cannabis use in adolescence is likely to have broad health
and social benefits. Efforts to reform cannabis legislation
should be carefully assessed to ensure they reduce
adolescent cannabis use and prevent potentially adverse
developmental effects.
